REC

How it Works

The Online Screen Recorder uses the modern browser API getDisplayMedia to capture your screen video stream directly.

1. Get Permissions

When you click "Start Recording", the browser will prompt you to select what to share (Entire Screen, Window, or Tab).

2. Record Locally

The tool uses the MediaRecorder interface to capture video data locally. The stream never leaves your device.

3. Create Video

Once stopped, the chunks are assembled into a WebM video file that you can watch or download instantly.

Use Cases

Tutorials

Record software demos, coding tutorials, or product guides to share with your team or audience.

Bug Reporting

Gaming

Record gameplay highlights from browser games without installing heavy software like OBS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I record system audio?
Yes. In the screen selection dialog, check "Share system audio" (usually available under "Entire Screen" or "Chrome Tab"). Note that audio support varies by OS and browser.
Is there a watermark?
Absolutely not. This tool is free and watermark-free for a clean recording experience.
Is there a time limit?
There is no software limit, but video data is stored in your RAM. Extremely long recordings may crash your browser if you run out of memory. We recommend clips under 30 minutes.
Why is the format WebM?
WebM is a modern video format optimized for the web and is natively supported by browser recording APIs. You can easily convert it to MP4 using any video converter.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The entire recording process happens client-side. The video file is generated locally on your computer and never sent to any server.
Does it work on Mobile?
Generally no. Mobile browsers (iOS/Android) typically do not fully support the getDisplayMedia API yet. Please use a Desktop browser.
Does it work on Safari?
Safari 13+ supports screen sharing, but implementation varies. For the best experience, we strongly recommend Chromium-based browsers like Chrome or Edge.
Can I pause the recording?
This lightweight tool currently supports start and stop only. To create complex videos, record multiple clips and stitch them later.
